This past Saturday night marked the first time a Bellator FC champion has been beaten in a non-title bout under the organization’s banner, as the promotion’s featherweight king Joe Warren was knocked out cold by Olympic wrestler Alexis Vila in the Season 5 Bantamweight Tournament where Warren had hoped to become the first fighter to hold belts in two Bellator divisions.

Warren was stopped sixty-four seconds into the opening round of action after getting caught with a few stiff shots including an evening-ending left hook. With the win Vila moved on to the semifinal field featuring fellow 135-pounders Eduardo Dantas, Ed West, and Marcos Galvao.

Here is the full list of Bellator 51 results:

Frank Caraballo def. Dustin Kempf via TKO Round 1 (Injury / Knee)

MMATraining Take: A champ losing was bound to happen given all the non-title fights Bellator features them in. Fortunately for the company Warren’s defeat took place at 135-pounds rather than his championship weight so at least there’s no significant controversy on that front. All in all it was a great show with some surprising finishes. Bantamweight champ Zach Makovsky definitely has a challenge on his hands no matter who emerges the tournament’s winner.
