Fans missing the Fitch-face should see the trademark sneer of top welterweight Jon Fitch back in the Octagon sooner than later as the 23-3-1 title-contender recently announced through Twitter he’d been given a thumbs-up from his doctor in terms of returning to the ring.

“I’m back! Dr. Kavitne gave me the OK to fight,” he wrote on the social networking site.

Fitch has been out of action since a February draw against B.J. Penn at UFC 127. The two were scheduled for a rematch in July but both ultimately backed out with injuries, a bum shoulder in the case of the former Big 10 wrestler. Prior to the disappointing outcome in Australia Fitch had won thirteen of his fourteen fights in the Octagon with the only exception being a decision loss to champion Georges St. Pierre.

While no details have emerged in terms of when Fitch will continue his quest towards a second shot at the divisional belt or who he will face, a logical landing spot for the 33-year old grappler might be UFC 139 in San Jose where his home-base of American Kickboxing Academy is located.
