Two of the UFC’s top middleweights have agreed to face off in headlining action on July 11 at UFC on Fuel 4 in the form of Mark Munoz–Chris Weidman. No location has been announced for the show though the bout was confirmed on this week’s episode of UFC Tonight.
A bout between light heavyweights James Te Huna-Brandon Vera has also been linked to the lineup.
Munoz may position himself as top contender with a win over Weidman based on his success as of late, racking up a quartet of consecutive victories including those over Demian Maia and Chris Leben. He is 7-1 since dropping to 185 pounds with his only stumble involving a Split Decision loss to Yushin Okami.
While Weidman may not have as many big wins as Munoz he’s certainly been equally sharp over the past few years, racking up an 8-0 record including four wins inside the Octagon. Weidman was last seen outpointing Maia at UFC on FOX 2 despite having less than two weeks’ notice to prepare for the Brazilian submission specialist.

MMATraining Take: This bout has the potential to be extremely boring since both men are wrestlers by trade and could cancel each other out skill-wise. Fortunately, Munoz packs dynamite in his fists and Weidman is ever-improving, so there’s always hope.
