Though fans are only a few days removed from UFC on FOX 3, the card for the UFC’s August 4 outing on network television has started to take shape with a number of bouts being announced over the past few weeks. The latest additions to the lineup include a quartet of heavyweights highlighted by the presence of fan-favorite Matt Mitrione.

According to UFC officials, Mitrione will take on 29-year old Brit Rob Broughton at the show. Also revealed for UFC on FOX 4 was a match-up between Oli Thompson-Philip De Fries.

Mitrione made a name for himself on TUF as a raw talent with personality to boot. Despite having no professional experience, Mitrione went 5-0 in his first five UFC fights including four knockouts but came up short on the scorecards against Cheick Kongo in his last bout.

Comparably, the 15-7 Broughton is only 1-2 inside the Octagon and will look to avoid a third straight stumble when he meets Mitrione. Twelve of his total wins have involved some form of stoppage.

UFC on FOX 4 is scheduled to feature Brian Stann vs. Hector Lombard in the main event with Ryan Bader-Lyoto Machida serving as co-headliner.

MMATraining Take: This fight is essentially the UFC’s way of giving Mitrione a relatively easy win. Broughton is no slouch but clearly he’s on a slide while Mitrione has become one of the most beloved heavyweights on the company’s roster based on his affable personality and slug-first style.
