A pair of bantamweights will help the UFC celebrate July 4th Weekend as Renan Barao and Jeff Hougland have been signed to face off at UFC 148.

The card takes place July 7 from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event is expected to feature 135-pound champion Dominick Cruz against #1 contender Urijah Faber. Barao (28-1) will likely be competing for a shot at the winner, as he has been touted as the next challenger to the UFC title.

Since entering the UFC, Barao has defeated Cole Escovedo, Brad Pickett, and Scott Jorgensen to build on his incredible 28-1 record. The dynamic Brazilian’s only loss occurred in his debut meaning he has won every fight since then (minus a lone No Contest).

In Hougland (10-4) Barao will be facing a submission expert with seven of his ten career victories coming by way of tap-out, though his UFC debut went to the scorecards and saw him pick up the judges’ nod against Donny Walker.

Other fights scheduled for the event include Tito Ortiz-Forrest Griffin, Rich Franklin-Cung Le, and Michael Bisping-Tim Boetsch.

MMATraining Take: In facing someone with multiple submissions, Barao will have to be careful not to overlook him. With so much on the line for Barao expect to see the Brazilian flash all of his skills to earn the victory.
