When the UFC makes its official debut in China this winter it will potentially do so with a pair of former champions facing off with Rich Franklin representing the company’s brand and Cung Le proudly flying a Strikeforce flag. UFC President Dana White pointed to the pairing at a press conference promoting UFC 149 where he stated his interest in having Le-Franklin face off on November 10 in Macau at UFC on Fuel 6.

However, Le suffered a foot injury in his win over Patrick Cote at UFC 148 and could be out long enough to keep him out of the bout. On the bright side, Le’s interest in mixing it up with Franklin shows the 40-year old striker hasn’t decided to hang up his gloves just yet.

Franklin is fresh off a victory against Wanderlei Silva, running his overall record to 29-6 including 25 finishes. Comparably, Le is 8-2 with seven stoppages and is one of the most creative strikers in the business.

MMATraining Take: I’m all for the fight both in terms of entertainment value and the package it presents to the Chinese people. The bout is essentially excitement wrapped up in two highly-touted reputations. What’s not to like?
