Ronda Rousey has been making several media trips around the U.S. since claiming the Strikeforce bantamweight belt from Miesha Tate. Now, it appears Rousey has a date for her first title-defense, as “Rowdy” Ronda will meet Sarah Kaufman on August 18 in San Diego, California.

Rousey (5-0) has spent just over seven minutes inside the cage during her five MMA fights including first-frame submission victories with all coming by way of an Armbar. Comparably, Kaufman (15-1) has rebounded from her first career loss at the hands of Marloes Coenen in 2010 to win three straight bouts. She topped Alexis Davis on the same card Rousey won her gold on to secure a spot against the Olympic judoka.

MMAFighting confirmed news of the fight late last night. Strikeforce officials are expected to announce the official date and location of the card in the coming weeks.

MMATraining Take: San Diego seems like a great spot for Rousey since it’s close to her homebase and also a MMA-friendly town. I’m definitely looking forward to the challenge Kaufman provides as a seasoned veteran with solid striking and a good wrestling base to work with.
