Last night at UFC 146, “Big Country” reminded MMA fans of his “big power” when Roy Nelson spun opponent Dave Herman around with a perfectly-placed punch leaving him in la-la land. The finish came before their match-up’s opening minute had expired and was the tenth TKO of the 17-7 Nelson’s career.

It also earned the bearded brawler an extra $70,000 after being named Knockout of the Night. However, Nelson had some company when it came to the honor, as Dan Hardy’s scintillating stoppage of Duane Ludwig was also given a KotN label (and scored the Brit an extra $70k).

Submission of the Night shared a similar fate with two men coming away with the distinction. Both Paul Sass, who handed Jacob Volkmann his first loss at 155 pounds with a tremendous Armbar-Triangle Choke, and Stefan Struve, who broke Lavar Johnson’s arm in 65 seconds, were given the award and attached $70,000.

No Fight of the Night bonus was issued.

MMATraining Take: I’d be willing to bet some locker room bonuses were handed out as well given the number of finishes and overall entertainment involved at UFC 146.
