jake-shields1MMATraining.com has learned from sources close to Affliction that Jake Shields may be stepping in for Vitor Belfort to take on Jorge Santiago at Affliction 3. MMATraining.com must inform our readers that this is not final and we cannot confirm this. We don’t want any lawsuits on our hands after yesterday.

If true, this will be another step up the middleweight ladder for the welterweight Jake Shields. He is one of the top 170 lbs fighters in the world and beat top 10 middleweight Robbie Lawler back on June 6th to run his record to 23-4.

Santiago has become one of the most improved fighters in all of MMA. After losing two in a row in the UFC and being let go, the ATT fighter has won 9 straight including wins over Jeremy Horn, Trevor Prangley and a very tough Kazuo Misaki in January of this year.

Shields vs. Santiago is a great late replacement for a card that was in doubt this morning. Vitor vs. Fedor. Shields vs. Santiago. I’ll take that any day of the week. Once again, we cannot completely confirm this is a done deal.
