The exodus of heavyweights from the Strikeforce roster apparently added a member this week. Following in the footsteps of Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum, 11-1 Chad Griggs will take to the Octagon for his next fight though no specific date/opponent have been tagged.

Griggs may be best remembered for his comeback win against then-unbeaten Bobby Lashley at Strikeforce: Houston but has won twice since, picking up victories over Gian Villante and Valentijn Overeem. He has finished all eleven of the opponents he’s defeated with nine TKOs and two submissions. The 33-year old will be looking for his sixth straight instance of success when he makes his UFC debut.

News of Griggs’ signing was first reported by MMAWeekly.

Zuffa recently announced they were doing away with Strikeforce’s heavyweight division based on an overall lack of depth both in the promotion’s pool as well as the weight-class in general. It is believed most of Strikeforce’s top talent will be part of the UFC at some point in 2012.

MMATraining Take: Griggs is a nice addition to the UFC roster. He’ll never be champion or even a legitimate contender but I expect “The Gravedigger” to turn in some solid performances while maybe even pulling off an upset or two in the process.
