Thiago Silva has been tabbed to replace an injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira against Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of UFC on Fuel 2. The card takes place in Sweden,  Gustafsson’s native country, on April 14 and also features match-ups such as Diego Nunes-Dennis Siver and Brian Stann-Alessio Sakara.

Silva (14-2) is coming off a yearlong suspension after submitting synthetic urine to mask steroid use at UFC 125. He was expected to return against Brandon Vera, who he beat in the bout associated with his PED use, but Vera was injured and forced to pull out of their planned fight. While Igor Pokrajac stepped in for Vera it now appears he’ll be seeking a new opponent with Silva booked for Gustafsson.

Gustafsson is a rising prospect with victories over Matt Hamill and Vlad Matyushenko. The 25-year old light heavyweight sports a record of 13-1 including five wins in six UFC fights.

MMATraining Take: No argument here as far as the match-up. Silva is a skilled competitor who has dealt with health issues in the past but still provides a serious challenge for someone in Gustafsson’s shoes.
