Two of the lightweight division’s top finishers will meet on December 30 at UFC 141, as the UFC announced a bout earlier today featuring BJJ specialist T.J. Grant taking on well-rounded competitor Jacob Volkmann.

Grant has tapped out thirteen of the seventeen opponents he’s beaten including a technical submission of Shane Roller earlier this month at UFC Live 6. He holds an overall record of 17-5 including past victories over Forrest Petz, Jason Burns, and Ryo Chonan.

Volkmann is also skilled on the mat with six submissions and six decisions in his thirteen total wins. He is currently on a four-fight winning streak with the quartet featuring Ronys Torres, Paul Kelly, Antonio McKee, and most recently Danny Castillo. Both of his losses in the UFC came in welterweight action meaning he remains undefeated inside the Octagon at 155 pounds.

UFC 141 is headlined by former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem mixing it up with former UFC title-holder Brock Lesnar with the December 30 event also scheduled to include bouts like Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks and Alexander Gustafsson vs. Vladimir Matyushenko.

MMATraining Take: Not the most exciting match-up per say but a decent pairing in general. Both fighters are clearly killers on the mat, especially in the case of Grant. Also, a win for Volkmann would likely mean a bump up in competition, adding even more incentive for him to come out and have a strong showing.
