The MMA community was left shocked this weekend when seemingly infallible light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was arrested after crashing his Bentley into a utility pole and subsequently showing signs of intoxication. Fortunately, the 24-year old escaped the accident without injury though his reputation may not have been so lucky.

“While the facts of this situation are still being gathered and situated, First Round Management fully supports Jon and we are asking for fans and media to respect the privacy of Jon and his family during this time,” said Jones’ manager in a statement to media.

TMZ Sports broke the news, also reporting Jones had been bailed out of jail by his mother as the wreck took place in New York where “Bones” hails from.

Jones has remained fairly silent on the matter though took to Twitter late last night to write, “God is good.”

No official comment has surfaced yet from the UFC. Currently Jones’ next fight is scheduled to take place on September 1 at UFC 151 against Dan Henderson.

MMATraining Take: As stupid as drunk driving is at least no one was hurt. Hopefully Jones will learn from the experience and realize he’s got millions in the bank and cab fare isn’t nearly as expensive as the price he’ll pay if things go wrong on the road. Let’s not forget he’s only 24-years old and I reckon a lot of us would screw up at least once if in his position.
